June 2020 Training Stats

As alluded to in my May training status post, June brought a busier schedule, primarily from summer school (Strategic Human Capital class, with the Carey Business School), on top of full-time work.

Overall, I ran less miles in June than May, but also took up a Strava “June-July Walking Challenge”, in which one receives a digital badge after having done at least two one-hour+ walks/hikes each week, for a total of eight weeks. For me, I’m doing these as one-hour (or longer) rucks, twice a week, with usually 30 or 40 lbs in my rucksack: Rucker 25L, from GoRuck.

May 2020:

  • 34 hours of training (~1.1 hours/day)

  • 140 miles of running (~4.5 miles/day)

  • 34 personal records in Strava

  • 41 activities:

    • 19 runs

    • 9 yoga sessions

    • 1 rucking session

    • 12 weight lifting sessions (or rings outside)

June 2020:

  • 30 hours of training (1 hour/day)

  • 100 miles of running (~3.3 miles/day) [100.1 miles to be exact: ran just enough on 30 June to hit 100 miles for month!]

  • 35 activities:

    • 17 runs

    • 5 yoga sessions

    • 8 rucking sessions (twice a week)

    • 5 weight lifting sessions

May 2020 Training Stats

May was a good month of training -- didn't run quite as many miles as April, but spent more cumulative time training (more sandbag training, rings outside, and started rucking with my new GORUCK Rucker 25L bag with 30 lb ruck plate [more on that to come]).

Part of the reason for the extra training in May versus April is likely that I had more free time after my Spring II term for my Flex MBA with Hopkins finished ~May 11th. Summer term just started on June 1st, though, which will suck up more of my free time, particularly on the weekend…

April 2020:

  • 30 hours of training (1 hour/day)

  • 164 miles of running (~5.5 miles/day)

  • 14 personal records in Strava

  • 29 activities:

    • 25 runs

    • 2 yoga sessions

    • 2 weight lifting sessions (sandbags)

Race Across the USA (Virtual 1000 Miler)

As an ultrarunner, I have a slight (read: heavy) addiction to stalking UltraSignup and constantly scoping out possible races and marathon/ultramarathon schedules…I discovered a few virtual ultramarathon races with Destination Trail Run — the fine organizers of 200+ mile races such as Bigfoot 200 (attempted in 2018! DNF at 133 miles), Tahoe 200, and Moab 240.

In particular, I noticed there was a “Race Across the USA” virtual run, in which entrants can either register to run 1000 miles or 2572 miles (distance from San Francisco to New York), either solo or as a team…over the time frame of June 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021.

Since I’m slightly behind on my Strava goal of running 1500 miles in 2020 (have run 416 miles thus far in 2020, as of May 31st), I figured signing to get a cool 1000 mile belt buckle would be a good incentive to sustain my needed mileage throughout the rest of the year — about 33 miles per week, to be exact.

Although I’m also attempting to maintain and gain a bit of strength through ring workouts in the park and weighted sandbag sessions (cleans, front squats, deadlifts), running ~30-35 miles a week shouldn’t preclude the ability to also keep some strength.

Look forward to receiving the unique buckle, as can be seen below, after running 1000 miles!

Run or bike across the USA — relay or solo (virtually); can cover 2572 mile or 1000 mile distance, from June 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021: register here!
